Reduce Points. Save Time & Money
Most of the people who contact our office are not happy about the fact that they were ticketed. Dealing with something as seemingly simple as a ticket for speeding a few miles over the posted limit can be stressful and time-consuming, especially for those who have never received a ticket in New York state. Unlike some other states, New York requires that you return your ticket to the issuing court with a plea of either "Guilty" or "Not Guilty" by the appointed date (found on the bottom of the ticket). Not until after the matter has been completely resolved will the court issue a fine. Failure to answer your ticket or pay a fine issued by a court, like the Jamestown City Court, will result in a suspended license.
Motorists must be aware that pleading "Guilty" will make you responsible for all Points and other penalties applicable to your original charge. In New York state, incurring 6 points within an 18 month period will require you to pay a $300.00 (as of June 2011), Driver Responsibility assessment fee. Points incurred above that within 18 months are assessed an additional $75.00 fee per point. Auto insurance companies have different policies regarding what types of offenses affect the prices you pay and coverage, so please contact your carrier for more information. As with any area of the law, these matters can be extremely complicated and difficult to understand and we invite you to contact Jamestown ticket lawyer Randall Kehoe to discuss your options.
